The small village San Bernadino lays about 380 m high, steep above the sea. It is the pilgrimage chapel of Corniglia (S. Maria delle Grazie). From the church the village stretches to the right along the mountain and has a breath taking view over the half island Corniglia and the Guvano beach. Today the village counts about a couple of dozen inhabitants and is absolutely idyllic and calm. Since 1999 it is possible again to stop at the church court for a cappuccino among the natives away from the tourist stream.
Like Muro, S.Bernadino is laying at the hiking path No. 8a that connects the five pilgrimage churches of the Cinque Terre. Muro and S. Bernadino are separated by a 20 minute foot walk on that path.
To VERNAZZA Centre-town square walking on the trail n.07 you need about 35 minutes.
Before arriving at Vernazza town square you meet the famous hiking trail n.2 which connects the 5 villages, so you also can continue the "blue path"n.2 (sentiero azzurro) to the other 5Terre towns.
During the day time you have bus connections from San Bernardino. The bus runs up and down to VERNAZZA - town square and if you start walking on the trail you can return "at home" with the shuttle bus at the end of your excursion.
The bus stop in San Berardino is at the church court. Taking the bus you reach Vernazza quickly in 7-10 minutes. San Bernardino is reachable by car and you can find public parking possibilities at the church court where the road ends.
